An American Express Meetings and Events travel forecast said 80 percent of meeting organizers and hoteliers in North America anticipate increasing or maintaining their current number of in-person meetings through this year compared with 2011. In the United States alone 1.8 million meetings were held in 2010, attracting 205 million people, according to the Convention Industry Council.
That means millions of meetings throughout North America are about to grow increasingly greener, because 73 percent of meeting organizers surveyed in the American Express forecast indicated clients are showing increasing interest in running more environmentally friendly meetings.
Given that people plan to meet nearly as often in person in 2012 as in 2011, here are some ways to green up your events. 1. Provide session video recordings only online or through a mobile app. Zero physical DVDs means no materials, no shipping, no hassle. 2. Consider using a mobile app to virtually replace the annual printed event guide, which in itself eliminates all printing costs, paper costs and distribution costs.
