NEW YORK
The American Express Meetings & Events Global Forecast found that meeting planners worldwide are increasingly considering the environment in the planning process, and actively looking for ways to incorporate green elements in their meetings. The forecast found that 73 percent of meeting planners have greater interest in using metrics to help make their events greener in 2012.
"As meeting planners and organizations look to maintain high ROI and ROE, incorporating green efforts can be a very successful means of delivering against their key objectives,” said Issa Jouaneh, Vice President and General Manager American Express Meetings & Events, Vice President Maxvantage.
While there is strong interest, going green hasn’t been easy for meetings planners. The main challenge: a lack of metrics to determine the actual environmental impact of tactics to create a green event. To help resolve this, American Express Meetings & Events and Maxvantage recently expanded a program with Green Hotels Global (GHG) to help hotels determine and disclose metrics on environmental performance – making it possible for meetings planners to more clearly identify and quantify how green a particular venue might be.
