DEARBORN, Mich.
The Hyatt Regency chain will separate itself from the
Dearborn hotel that once was the premier convention and meeting space in Metro
Detroit, leaving the future of the landmark property uncertain.
Hyatt and
the relatively new owners of the property agreed to part ways after the two
sides could not agree on what it would take to upgrade the facility. Also, Hyatt
didn't believe the Dearborn location could draw the large amount of convention
and group meeting business that it once depended on, two industry analysts
said.
"It's not surprising, because the era when the Hyatt Dearborn was
at its peak feels as distant as a 'Mad Men' episode," said Ron Wilson, CEO of
Hotel Investment Services, an area hotel management and consulting company. It
was not immediately clear how soon the Hyatt branding would vanish from the
772-room hotel.
