New hotel construction in the United States has been muted since the economic recession took hold in 2008. But the number of projects in the pipeline is starting to pick up, and there are some assets either under construction or near groundbreaking that are expected to make a splash when they open.
The largest hotel under construction today is the 1,012-room JW Marriott Austin, followed by the 800-room Omni Nashville Hotel.
The other eight noteworthy properties—specifically those valued at $40 million or more—and their locations are: Park Hyatt Hotel New York, New York; L’auberge Casino & Hotel, Baton Rouge, La.; Hilton Columbus Downtown, Columbus, Ohio; Radisson Blu Mall of America, Minneapolis, Minn;
Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort, Hollywood Beach, Fla.; Bordertown Bingo & Casino Hotel, Wyandotte, Okla.; Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar Phoenix at CityScape, Phoenix, Ariz. and Hyatt Place Boston/Braintree, Boston.
