ST. LOUIS
Carole A. Moody, former long-time President of the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, died on Tuesday, August 7 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Moody’s devotion to St. Louis, her hometown, led her to dedicate her working life to helping St. Louis grow and develop as a tourism and convention destination. She retired as President of the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC) in 2006 after a 30-year career with the organization.
During her time at the CVC, Carole was appointed St. Louis' first Director of Tourism. She also served as Assistant Director of Convention Sales, Director of Marketing and Senior Vice President of Marketing prior to becoming the organization's President. Domestic and international marketing programs she developed dramatically increased leisure travel, conventions and meetings in St. Louis. Carole also created the organization's first marketing department and led the establishment of the "Explore St. Louis," brand still in use today.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Gorman, their daughter Tracy Gaffney, son-in-law Michael Gaffney, their grandchildren, Taylor, Rion and Michael Thomas Gaffney and Morgan Forrest; mother Josephine Groceman, sister Nancy Groceman, niece Sara Croft and nephew Aaron Diecker.
A celebration of Carole’s life will take place on Friday, August 10 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Immacolata in St. Louis. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Immacolata.
