ROCHESTER, N.Y.
One of Rochester's better-known hotels, the Strathallan, is going to become a DoubleTree by Hilton location, the local Democrat and Chronicle has reported. The hotel, now closed for construction, is scheduled to reopen this fall as the Strathallan DoubleTree by Hilton.
It's undergoing a $10 million, top-to-bottom renovation to improve, among other things, the unfinished, gravel-topped roof on the ninth floor. The property is posting updated photos on its Facebook page.
The Strathallan is located on the site of a 19th-century mansion in the Neighborhood of the Arts. The building, however, isn't historic. The article says it was built as an apartment house for seniors in the early 1970s and was converted into a 151-room hotel in 1979.
When it reopens as a Hilton-brand hotel, expect to see a redone lobby, improved entrance and a first-ever pool and an expanded fitness area off the lobby.
