DETROIT, Mich.
Michigan's largest city is getting creative with green lodging and event space, as plans are developing for Collision Works, a new property by Detroit Hotel Project that will be built out of shipping containers.
Located in the city’s burgeoning Eastern Market district, the eco-friendly and design-centric hotel will offer approximately 36 guest rooms and 3,000 square feet of event space in addition to co-working spaces and community mentoring programs.
The project has been evolving since 2011 and plans to break ground in 2013 and be completed by the end of the year, as the use of containers minimizes construction time.
And the unusual name? It's explained on the Collision Works website as “Collisions can be scary; we don’t always know what’s going to happen. Collisions can be inspiring; sharing and learning shows us new paths. Collision also Works. It brings us together and that’s the first and most important part of building any community.”
