The first tower of the world's tallest hotel, JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, has opened its doors adding 804 rooms.
Officially recognised as the world’s tallest hotel at a height of 355 metres, only 26 metres short of the Empire State Building in New York, the JW Marriott Marquis has been dubbed Dubai’s first world-class convention and business destination hotel.
The hotel is opening in several phases, with its first tower of 804 rooms and suites in its soft opening phase, and with three of the final nine restaurants.
By January, the hotel will have all nine restaurants and five bars and lounges open, with a grand opening scheduled to take place in February.
The 82-storey, 1,608-room hotel represents another record-breaking structure for a city that already boasts the tallest building and the largest shopping mall.
General Manager Rupprecht Queitsch personally greeted the first guests - Tommaso Bendoni of GlobeSoccer, which will hold its annual event in the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai next month - and Fadi Deek, director for Boeing IT Middle East and Africa.
“The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai is an outstanding addition to the JW Marriott portfolio and we are eager to introduce it to the international business community," said Queitsch.
“The JW Marriott Marquis will add significantly to Dubai in its drive to become the preferred choice for meetings, incentives, conference and events business. We are working in tandem with the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Dubai Convention Bureau to put Dubai on the global business destination map,” added Queitsch.
In July, hotel giant Marriott International said its Middle East operations outpaced those elsewhere in the world in the second quarter of 2012.
The company said comparable system-wide revenue per available room (RevPAR) increased 10.7 percent in the MENA region compared to 6.7 percent worldwide.
