Unique Boutique Completed in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH

At a ribbon cutting, The Mansions on Fifth, a luxury hotel located on what was once known as Millionaire’s Row, celebrated its Grand Opening after six years of restorations. With historic designation, award-winning recognition, and a first year of operations for its initial thirteen suites, the completion of the McCook Reed Mansion marks the Mansions designation as a twenty-two suite boutique hotel.

The McCook and McCook Reed mansions were built in the Elizabethan revivalist and Tudor styles and were the last among the grand mansions on Pittsburgh’s storied “Millionaire’s Row,” home of notable turn-of-the-century industrialists and financiers. The home was the private residence of Willis F. McCook, an industrialist who worked as Henry Clay Frick’s attorney, representing him in Frick’s celebrated fight with Andrew Carnegie. McCook and his wife raised 10 children in the home and built the McCook Reed Mansion for eldest daughter Bessie and her husband upon their marriage.

For decades, the McCook Mansion played host to everyone from the well-to-do-family that commissioned it to military officers and college students. In 2004, a fire rendered the residence uninhabitable. It sat vacant until the current owners began a multi-year effort to purchase and restore it to its original grandeur.

Today, with a focus on service, the hotel has 22 suites equipped with modern amenities and extras that include around-the-clock butler service and valet parking. Suites include discreet technology, such as wireless connectivity, flat-screen TVs and complementary iPads. The Mansions recently announced a new executive team that includes Joel Hurley as General Manager, Eric Earnest as Executive Chef and Jennifer Pendleton as Director of Sales and Events Management. The owners have created signature events including a jazz Music Series, wine tastings, incredible Sunday brunches and art immersion classes.

Mansions partners include the Common Plea, the exclusive caterer for large events, as well as Galerie Werner, which brings a unique, rotating collection of both fine European art and contemporary art to its public spaces.
