The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) has announced it will select the second set of early adopter destinations.
Following the January 31 application deadline, up to 10 destinations will be selected, based on criteria determining their dedication to preserving their natural and cultural assets.
The destinations will test sustainability criteria and provide feedback as GSTC works to determine new standards by which to meausre an area's sustainable tourism.
The first international early adopters included Teton County, Wyo.; Fjord Norway; Lanzarote, Spain; Okavango Delta, Botswana and St. Kitts and Nevis.
GSTC works with government agencies, destination management companies and the private tourism sector to promote sustainable travel.
