Randy Gardner, Hotel Felix - Chicago, IL

What are your bar or nightclub recommendations?

We’re in a great area of Chicago, River North, steps from the electricity of Michigan Avenue and the high energy of the Gold Coast.

There are many bars and nightclubs in our neighborhood we’d recommend, but our top picks would be Sound Bar, Rockit Bar & Grill, Blue Agave, The Whiskey Bar and Vision.

Can you recommend a good place to take a stroll?

If you’re looking for a classic Chicago experience with shopping, great restaurants and views of gorgeous Lake Michigan, visit Michigan Avenue, Navy Pier and Millennium Park.

Are there any quirky places we should check out?

Chicago is filled with “must see” locations so it’s hard to pick just a few. But I highly recommend checking out Crown Fountain in Millennium Park, which is an interactive work of public art and video sculpture. I also tell guests to visit “The Ledge” at Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), which is a glass balcony on the 103rd floor. We also display artwork in our lobby from 360SEE, a sustainably-minded art gallery in town.

What is an unusual request from a group you’ve had?

One guest recently asked us to exchange her Canadian dollars into Euros. We aren’t able to exchange any currency here but we did point her in the direction of the nearest Currency Exchange or Western Union.

A party of 12 wants to have dinner right away. What restaurant can accommodate last-minute requests of this size?

We recommend the French bistro that’s adjacent to us, LM Bistro. They are accommodating with any of our last minute requests for our guests and even more important, their food is fantastic.

What’s a unique event that has taken place at your property?

We had an unveiling ceremony of our LEED Silver certification plaque, emceed by Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee, who is also an environmental advocate. A number of city and state dignitaries and influential members of Chicago’s green community were in attendance. We’re particularly proud of this because we are Chicago’s first LEED certified and eco-friendly hotel.

What service can you provide to groups that they normally might not receive elsewhere?

What’s unique about Hotel Felix is our eco-friendly atmosphere that we say leaves guests feeling “happy, naturally.” Chicago is known for many of its green initiatives and we offer an eco-friendly stay without compromising the luxury. We’re also part of STASH, the independent hotel rewards program, so frequent business travelers can still earn points while traveling. Plus, we know and understand the pressures and time constraints business travelers are under. Our hotel also has the “SPA at Hotel Felix” for a rejuvenating massage or facial.
