What service can you provide to groups that they normally might not receive?
Hyatt Regency Dallas has a seasoned, experienced staff that provides consistency and authentic hospitality, anticipating guests' and clients' needs both front-of-house and behind-the-scenes. The strong relationships that exist between departments allow employees across all disciplines to interact with other departments in a quick, flexible and responsive manner. This extra effort of teamwork results in satisfied guest experiences, which is always the goal.
What are your bar or nightclub recommendations?
With the 25-and-under crowd, I recommend Plush in the heart of downtown Dallas. It’s quite a popular spot with a cool atmosphere and DJs spinning everything from house to hip-hop. Because a majority of our guests are business travelers in their 30s, Sambuca Uptown is always among recommendations. This venue is unique in providing live music every night of the week. It’s a fun place for dancing, dining and cocktails, and only two miles from the Hyatt Regency Dallas.
Can you recommend a good place to take a stroll?
Hyatt Regency Dallas' central location is convenient for guests to stroll to downtown attractions of all sorts. I've recently been suggesting Dallas' newest pedestrian-friendly landmark, Klyde Warren Park, the 5.2-acre deck park built over Woodall-Rogers Freeway in the center of Dallas (and just a few miles from the hotel). This is the city's newest urban green space, offering outdoor areas to relax, jog/exercise, play games and dine. Klyde Warren Park is a hub of activity with four or five events per day, ranging from yoga to movie night to outdoor concerts. It also has a children’s park and several food trucks that offer a variety of quick cuisine.
Are there any quirky places we should check out?
I’m a big fan of the restaurant Meddlesome Moth, located in the design district. Known to have the best beer selection among the Dallas area restaurants, this ‘American-style gastro pub’ is similar to a Spanish tapas restaurant, encouraging plate sharing. The restaurant pairs beers from around the globe with each menu item to bring the flavors to life.
What is an unusual request from a group you’ve had?
We host groups and conventions of all sorts at Hyatt Regency Dallas, and from time to time we have guests with specific religious requirements or restrictions. Several years ago, we received a request for staff assistance for guests who were unable to touch mechanically operated items in observance of their religion. This included our card entry guest room doors. Of course, no matter how unique the request, if it’s important to our guests, it’s important to us. So we rounded up available staff members from every department and made it happen.
A party of 12 wants to have dinner right away. What restaurant can accommodate last-minute requests of this size?
Of course, Hyatt Regency Dallas' award-winning restaurant and banquet staff are always willing to accommodate guests. Our property is also home to Celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck's Asian fusion restaurant, Five Sixty. The restaurant is located atop Reunion Tower, providing an ideal spot for out-of-town visitors to experience the stunning 360-degree revolving view of Dallas while enjoying four-star cuisine. Outside of the hotel, I would recommend Al Biernat’s in the Turtle Creek area of Dallas. We have a strong relationship with this restaurant, and they are always happy to go above and beyond to assist our guests. Al Biernat’s not only has the best service around, but the food is always incredible.
What’s a unique event that has taken place at your property?
When Superbowl XLV was in Dallas in 2011, we hosted the NFL executives, a number of celebrities and the game’s main corporate sponsors, including Pepsi, Gatorade and Frito Lay. It was quite a spectacle of high energy and tight security…not to mention an unexpected snowstorm!
