WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Plans for new development in Greater Lafayette continue to unfold.
"They're showing kind of a breakfast bar and fitness area and such," Ryan O'Gara with the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission said.
O'Gara said the breakfast bar and fitness area he's talking about would all be a part of a new hotel that could be coming to West Lafayette.
"It's a 102-room, five-story hotel," O'Gara explained. "They have some meeting room areas as well as a pool and other amenities for the hotel."
O'Gara said the hotel would be built on the empty, two acre lot at the corner of Tapawingo Drive and State Street.
He said building it in the "gateway" to the city is prime to reel in more businesses to the area.
"If you look behind this area along Tapawingo, it's a pretty vacant, empty track," O'Gara explained. "We want the levee to be a very lively mixed, used place where there are people living there, working there, staying there, shopping there and going to movies there. This is an active urban site and this is another great component to add to that activity level."
Negotiations with the Indianapolis based company looking to build the Hampton Inn hotel will begin this month.
O'Gara said if all goes well, the matter could be brought to the West Lafayette City Council by this summer.
