BOSTON
The Boston Marathon bombings on Monday led to a temporary evacuation of one Boston hotel, while another lodging heightened its security in the aftermath. And yet another property closed temporarily, and will be moving forward on a day-to-day basis.
The 214-room Lenox Hotel was evacuated on Monday immediately following the explosions, which took place across the street.
Following its Tuesday reopening, the property issued the following statement: “Despite the events that occurred at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, we will be operating at full capacity tonight to welcome guests to Boston. Our entire area is under high security from local and federal agencies. Boylston Street is closed, however the hotel is accessible via Exeter Street. Current guests who need to retrieve belongings from their rooms can begin to do so at 9 a.m. this morning. Our thoughts and prayers remain with those affected by this tragedy.”
The 383-room Fairmont Copley Plaza, located across Copley Plaza from the finish line, was on heightened security, and also restricted access to the property following the bombing; it reopened to the public approximately 24 hours later.
The Copley Plaza also issued a statement:
“An explosion was reported at the finish line of The Boston Marathon, two blocks away from the hotel. All hotel colleagues are safe and our thoughts are with those affected by this tragic incident. Cancellation fees have been waived for the next three days as individuals adjust their travel plans in the wake of this tragedy.”
And at the nearby 148-room Mandarin Oriental, the property is temporarily closed but intending to host previously booked guests only by Wednesday night. Operations are on a day-to-day basis moving forward, with a tentative plan to take new business by Thursday evening.
The explosions on Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon took three lives and injured more than 180.
