Boston Temporarily Suspends Convention Center Operations

BOSTON

With the city of Boston in lockdown Friday as police pursue those behind the tragic bombings on Monday, the following statement has been issued by James E. Rooney, executive director, Massachusetts Convention Center Authority:

 “At this time, in compliance with the “shelter in place” order for the City of Boston, we have suspended operations at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center and the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center.

Activities already underway prior to the Governor’s order will be allowed to continue, including move-in activities at the BCEC for the Experimental Biology 2013 Annual Meeting as well as sessions in progress for the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association’s (ASCA) Annual Meeting at the Hynes.

Labor calls scheduled at the Hynes for the 11:00 a.m. move-out of ASCA and the noon move-in of The Boston Comic Con are temporarily suspended. Contractor labor and staff already in the building and move-in, move-out activity already started will be allowed to continue.  Labor scheduled to arrive later in the day should watch for further updates.

Attendees, exhibitors already in the building should stay and continue with scheduled activities. Attendees in route to the buildings for scheduled events will be allowed access, but should be prepared for vigorous security screening.

Attendees, exhibitors, employees of the MCCA and employees of contractors not already in route should not attempt to come to the Hynes or the BCEC at this time. We will continue to update as we have more information.”
