HotelMapper.com is a hotel reservations website which maps lodging accommodations worldwide based on rate and location. The company picked apart its results to find out how travel has changed and what this data says about the economy.

Hotel Mapper CTO Dwight Nash noted that last year theme parks and all in one packages were popular, but this year it's big cities and beaches.

"Travel is up overall. Based on the first part of 2013, hotel rates are lower than last year and travelers aren't as concerned about all in one deals,” Nash remarked. “Perhaps it's a reflection of a rebounding economy as supply is correcting itself to meet demand. They're starting to put together their own travel itinerary, which generally costs more in the end than packaged hotel deals, so this means travelers are less concerned about cost, but at the same time there has been a drop in average nightly hotel rates. Travelers are getting great hotel deals all around."
