PORTLAND, Ore.
The Green Meetings Industry Council (GMIC) in partnership with Twirl Management is launching the Certificate in Sustainable Event Planning as a 360-degree learning environment to create a new class of sustainable event practitioners.
Students in the program will be working towards the mission of creating, guiding and implementing the sustainability goals and performance outcomes of the 2014 Sustainable Meeting Conference. Through their participation the students will be responsible for the successful implementation of the sustainable event initiatives. Calls with the GMIC Sustainable Event Conference planning, marketing and client teams, communication with vendors, potential site visits and pre-conference attendance will be part of the curriculum.
Adult learners that participate will receive recognition onsite as the Conference Green Team and a GMIC Certificate in Sustainable Event Planning. They will have an opportunity to present their case study findings to the greater GMIC Community. Students will walk away with the knowledge, tools and confidence to implement the highest quality of sustainable meetings and events.
The course will be guided by "Sustainable Meetings Coach" Johanna R. Walsh, CMP, of Twirl Management, who has implemented the APEX/ASTM standards in over 10 meetings since the standards have been released.
This GMIC course includes 40 hours of instruction and application plus onsite field work. The process will lead each class participant through the achievement of practical application in sustainable meeting and event management. The majority of the program is online with some offline experiential application of concepts. These courses will be delivered by various types of media: conference calls, Adobe Connect, Google HangOut, Google Drive, small group work, interview processes, homework and quizzes. CEU credit will be available.
The culminating experience is an onsite practicum at the 2014 Sustainable Meetings Conference in San Francisco, Calif., April 14 - 17th.
GMIC is a global meetings association solely dedicated to sustainable meetings and event design.
