What service can you provide to groups that they normally might not receive?
At THE MODERN HONOLULU we take pride in ensuring that we’re able to provide an uncommon experience for our guests. One of things that make us so uncommon and unique is our business center service. In addition to the complimentary wifi guests receive, they also have full access to our business center at no extra charge. Guests are able to conveniently print, scan and copy documents.
We’ve found that this would be an easy and convenient way for our guests to stay connected with their friends and family back home or keep in touch with business associates across the Pacific Ocean.
What are your bar or nightclub recommendations?
Our own, of course! Addiction Nightclub is THE place to be on a Friday and Saturday night. When you walk in to the club I would encourage you to look up. The entire ceiling is covered in light bulbs of different sizes and they illuminate to the beat of house, hip hop and top 40 beats being spun and mixed by our house DJs, DJ Compose and Anit.
If your taste is to unwind in an intimate ambiance I highly recommend The Study Bar in our lobby. This is my kind of place to sit, relax, converse with friends and enjoy my most favorite cocktail called Huckle Berry Fin!
Can you recommend a good place to take a stroll?
I love taking a leisurely walk along Waikiki Beach at night. Waikiki is a world renowned beach filled with guests all wanting to master the Hawaiian art of he`e nalu or surfing. At night, this historic beach transforms itself from a sun tanning, surf riding Mecca to a quiet and romantic stroll along the beach.
Imagine walking hand in hand with your special someone. Your feet are comforted by the cool, soft white sand as both of you are amazed of the fact that you’re in Hawaii, walking along the beach in Waikiki while the Honolulu city lights provide warm romantic lighting just for the two of you to share.
Waikiki embodies the very essence of romance. It’s truly no surprise that Waikiki beach is also being known as the Mecca for the perfect wedding proposal.
Are there any quirky places we should check out?
Buzz’s Lanikai, a steakhouse located in a small town called Kailua, would be my top pick! It’s such a fun place to be! It’s the ultimate local dining experience, complete with a tree growing in the middle of the restaurant.
Seated directly across from Kailua beach, their wraparound terrace allows you to watch as the canoes come in and out of the ocean. Buzz’s offers local service and welcomes aloha shirts and slippers, while still offering steaks and seafood prepared to perfection, and please don’t forget to order the Lanikai Lemonade!
What is an unusual request from a group you’ve had?
I arranged for 70 pillows and sheets to be delivered to one of our meeting spaces. I have no idea what they were for, but the housekeeper had informed me that they all made miniature forts with them to do training exercises. I will admit, I was a little envious, only because I knew that if I were a part of the group, my fort would be absolutely amazing!
A party of 12 wants to have dinner right away. What restaurant can accommodate last-minute requests of this size?
Side Street Inn has been a local favorite for many years. Their original location truly lives up to the name as this local pau hana (after work) bar literally sits along a side street close to the Ala Moana Shopping center. The quality and quantity of food is overwhelmingly delicious and even though there might be a short wait for a last minute party of 12, the food is worth the wait.
Whenever I dine there, I always make it appoint to order their signature pork chops, sizzling rib eye steak and an order of their lup cheong (Chinese sausage) fried rice. An absolute must try even if you’re a party of two wanting to dine where the locals dine.
What’s a unique event that has taken place at your property?
THE MODERN HONOLULU is known for its hip and lavish parties. Every last Friday of the month our hotel plays host to an event called Elements. It’s a fun and trendy party that highlights all of our lavish spaces within the hotel. For those wanting to relax and enjoy a mellow evening, they can head to our indoor lounge called, the Study.
If your passion is to dance the night away, you can do so under the stars at the Sunrise Pool and end the night at Addiction Nightclub. The night also includes a fashion show where we’re able to showcase local fashion designers and watch sexy models strut their stuff in our sleek and certainly lopsided hotel.
