America's Top Meeting Cities Revealed

MCLEAN, Va.

Cvent, a leading cloud-based enterprise event management platform, has revealed its 2013 list of the top 50 cities for meetings and events in the U.S., according to meeting and event booking activity through the extensive Cvent Supplier Network.

Orlando and Las Vegas held their positions in first and third compared to last year’s list, while Chicago jumped to second place and Atlanta and San Diego advanced into the top five. New York, which just missed the top 10 last year at number 11, moved up to number six this year.

The top 10 cities are:

1. Orlando, FL

2. Chicago, IL

3. Las Vegas, NV

4. Atlanta, GA

5. San Diego, CA

6. New York, NY

7. Washington, D.C.

8. Dallas, TX

“There were a surprising number of cities that shifted in our list this year, highlighting the competitive nature of the meetings and conventions industry, as well as the critical role that convention and visitors bureaus play in attracting events,” said Bharet Malhotra, senior vice president of sales for the Cvent Supplier Network. “Meetings and conventions are major economic drivers, generating valuable revenue for cities and local businesses that benefit from business travel.”

New to the Cvent list this year are National Harbor, Md.; Tucson, Ariz.; Coronado, Calif. and Salt Lake City, Utah, which displaced Henderson, Nev., as well as Boca Raton, Jacksonville and Naples, Fla., in the Top 50.  One standout trend among smaller cities that have moved up in the ranking this year is proximity to a major airport. These include cities like Rosemont, Ill., and San Jose, Calif.  Airport proximity is also a strong point for all of the top 10 cities, several of which are served by multiple airports.

Cvent evaluated data from almost 5,700 U.S. destinations to create the list of top meeting cities.
