ACAPULCO
With tens of thousands of tourists still stranded in and around the resort city of Acapulco on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, Hurricane Manuel was expected to do further damage to Los Cabos in coming days according to the National Hurricane Center.
While approximately 10,000 tourists were airlifted to safety Wednesday, officials estimated that 40,000 to 60,000 remain trapped in the water-logged city.
Hit with the impact of Hurricane Ingrid as well, Mexico has lost at least 80 lives during the natural disaster and has had approximately 35,000 homes severely damaged.
The heart of the current chaos appears to be in Acapulco, where crocodiles have been spotted crawling the streets and extensive looting has been witnessed, leading to the national marines being called in to maintain order.
