Marriott International CEO and President Arne Sorenson has stepped into the fray over the federal government shutdown, calling out congress for failed political leadership in his LinkedIn blog and urging funding measures and other financial policy action.
In a post titled “Shutdown Is a Failure of Political Leadership,” Sorenson referred to the situation as a “circus” and opined that our politicians “don’t even appear to be trying.”
He lamented the fallout’s direct impact on Washington, D.C., travel and tourism, but also emphasized the deep impact that extends well beyond our nation’s capital—including the global perception on current travel to the U.S.
Sorenson also expressed concerns over what he sees as a lack of motivation for a change of course by today’s policy-makers, and conceded that he doesn’t have all the answers to the problem—but would love to see a conversation started in the industry on the best way to move forward.
