At a recent press conference (Nov. 14), Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and Mohegan Tribal leaders welcomed an excited crowd as they opened their new hotel and Convention Center. The construction project, coined Project Sunlight, broke ground last July and features a seven story hotel, spa and adjacent Convention Center.
“Today is a day of celebration – of the growth and strength of this organization – and of this community and region,” said Mike Bean, President of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. “We have come a long way since opening seven years ago and I am excited to see where the future will take us as we embark on this journey and evolution in our history.”
At the press conference, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs executives also revealed plans for a grand opening celebratory weekend January 17 - 19, 2014 headlined with a private performance by stand-up comedian, actor and late-night personality Jay Leno. Additional entertainment confirmed for the weekend, to date, includes double-platinum-selling singer, songwriter and Country star Josh Turner, the Bacon Brothers and David Foster and the Mohegan Sun All-Stars. More details about the weekend will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 238-room hotel includes a combination of standard guest rooms and suites, all incorporating comfort and convenience with new technologies including iPad Mini compendiums, iHome docking systems, Smart TVs and single cup coffee brewers. The hotel also features an indoor pool, fitness center, business center and on-site Spa Sapphire salon and spa.
The adjacent 20,000 square-foot Convention Center offers flexible meeting space to accommodate groups, meetings, banquets and functions ranging from 10 to 1,500. The space can also be converted into a live events center that can accommodate up to 1,500 guests for concerts, live comedy and more.
