The newly released American Express Global Meetings & Events forecast for 2014 sees a generally stable outlook for the industry in 2014, with some key small changes predicted as well.
Meetings spend and activity per company are seen as stable issues for the new year, with perhaps slight downward trends in meeting length and number of attendees. Other key projections include the rising use of mobile tools and social media at meetings, ongoing budget challenges tied to slightly rising hotel rates, and the continuing shrinking of meetings’ lead times.
Across the globe, planners are also forecasting the increasing regionalization of meetings and events in an effort to reduce travel time and expense.
The report also reveals a growing interest in incorporating group air rates into the planning process, as planners become more aware of the potential cost advantages in that area.
