United Curtailing Cleveland Flights

CLEVELAND, Ohio

United will be reducing its flight schedule out of Cleveland (CLE) in stages beginning April 1, 2014. The announcement was made in a statement by the airline, which said it “made this difficult decision because customer demand for hub-level flying falls short of the capacity we are providing. Despite best efforts, we have been operating in Cleveland at a substantial loss for more than a decade.”

Average daily departures from CLE - primarily United Express flying - will be reduced by around 60 percent, in roughly even increments in each of April, May and June 2014.

Cleveland will remain a part of the United network and will continue to have non-stop service to many of the most-popular business and leisure destinations as well as all United hubs. When the carrier fully implements the schedule reductions in June, United will offer 72 peak-day flights to 20 destinations from Cleveland. Cleveland customers will be able to fly to nearly all destinations offered today, either on a nonstop or connecting basis.

United will update existing reservations, if necessary, during the next two weeks. Most customers will reportedly see little or no effect on their confirmed itinerary.
