New White Paper Highlights Need for Networking

LEESBURG, Va.

The National Conference Center has just released a white paper on the importance of face-to-face networking. The paper is authored by Dyanne Smith of The National Conference Center.

“With the amount of online resources readily available to us on our desktops and smart phones, blindly attending events and ‘hoping for the best’ becomes obsolete,” Smith writes within the document. "We must remind ourselves that social media does not replace face-to-face networking but instead is a supplement and provides the tools for instantaneous two-way communication.”

In the white paper, NCC interviews Washington D.C. business leaders and leading authorities on events and successful networking.

Interviewees and contributors to the paper include:

  • Kristina Bouweiri of Reston Limousine.
  • Lyles Carr with The McCormick Group.
  • Derek Coburn of cadre and author of Networking is Not Working.
  • Kelly Harris with Lockheed Martin.
  • Tina Johnson with JP Events and Consulting.
  • Diane Lunsford who is a writer and has supported many regional executives.
  • Sharla Warren of eventPower.
  • Tien Wong of Tech2000.

In the NCC white paper Warren, vice president of conference services at eventPower explains the role that social media can play in networking without it becoming a detractor. The use of mobile applications such as Trip Builder and Double Dutch allow professionals to connect before an event and stay connected during and after, while allowing hosts to optimize their event and engage directly.

Included in the white paper is a useful pullout on the “do’s” and “don’ts” of networking. To read the paper, go to http://bit.ly/1dLwUaM.
