BRETTON WOODS, N.H.
The age of craft spirits continues with the introduction of the Mount Washington Woodford Reserve Bourbon at Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, N.H. Fashioned for full flavor by Woodford Reserve distillery in Versailles, Ky., the small batch bourbon whiskey aims for a palate-pleasing blend of bold and complex flavors.
"American spirits are experiencing a renaissance with micro distilleries popping up across the country," said Rich Wood, beverage manager at Omni Mount Washington Resort. "The idea for the Mount Washington blend was to create an excellent bourbon whiskey that guests couldn't experience anywhere else."
Wood has been deeply involved in creating the resort's custom bourbon whiskey, and visited Kentucky for a week to sample barrels from Woodford Reserve, one of the oldest distilleries in the Bluegrass State. Wood met with Master Distiller Chris Morris, who led him through the brewing process before blending whiskeys from eight barrels to sample. Eventually, they settled on two barrels - one malty, the other with notes of sweet chocolate and saltiness.
Three months later, 180 bottles of Mount Washington Woodford Reserve Bourbon arrived at Omni Mount Washington Resort. Inside each bottle is a distinctive bourbon whiskey of amber brown color with golden hues, aromas of malt and vanilla up front with sweet chocolate notes. The 90-proof spirit goes down smooth, with a lingering finish of sea salt caramel on the palate. It's a great base for a Manhattan, and also perfect sipped neat or on the rocks allowing the complex flavor profile to develop.
Mount Washington Woodford Reserve Bourbon is available by the glass or in cocktails at the Princess Room at Omni Mount Washington Resort, while supplies last.
