NEW YORK CITY
The Courtyard New York Manhattan/Chelsea celebrated its official opening on March 6, 2014, with a ribbon cutting and reception to mark this 273-room hotel’s debut on West 30th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, in the heart of Manhattan’s West Side.
This hotel aims to reflect the new look and feel of the Courtyard brand, with its high impact aesthetics in the lobby, allowing guests to make best use of the flexible space for work or play. They can relax at a central communal table, network in the semi-enclosed lounge, or spend time in more private booths with personal HDTVs.
The enhanced GoBoard lets guests access travel and local information, maps and directions, plus much more, on a 55-inch touchscreen. Mobile integration even allows guests to transmit directions from the GoBoard directly to their smartphones.
Guests can also enjoy Table 135, which serves American breakfast along with to-go options and Starbucks coffee. Or, guests can pick up a drink or snack from The Market, which is open 24/7. Other conveniences like on-site laundry facilities and a fitness center let travelers create their own flexible stay experience.
Groups seeking to convene can host gatherings of up to about 20 in the new property’s intimate meeting room.
Celebrating History
Thoughtful design and décor takes into account the rich neighborhood history. The area was once known as the Fur District; in fact, one can still see architectural façade details on neighboring buildings depicting the fur trade, which faded in the area by the late 1990s.
In a nod to another nearby neighborhood, upon arrival guests are welcomed by a striking 17 by 8-foot tile mural, an explosion of color depicting flora and fauna.
Created by artist Coral Bourgeois, it pays homage to the Flower District, defined as 28th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, where fashionable ladies of the 1890s once shopped nearby on the “Ladies’ Mile."
Other large format photographic artwork by photographers Josh Lehrer and Elizabeth Cheviot, inspired by the city’s history, art and culture, appear in many of the public areas of the hotel.
Hotel Amenities, Services and Location
Guest rooms are modern, with sleek design, including soft white coverlets, accented by blue slate colors, to invoke a restful setting. Separate seating areas and generously-sized desks are functional and appealing.
Two Skylight Suites feature millwork made in Brooklyn, New York. In fact, the hotel’s attention to the environment in water and energy-saving measures, as well as its adherence to an extensive recycling program, has positioned it for consideration as a LEED-certified hotel.
The Courtyard Manhattan/Chelsea hotel is in a location convenient to many parts of the city. Both leisure and business travelers will find it’s a quick stroll to Penn Station, Herald Square and Times Square. Visitors can walk a few blocks directly west on West 30th Street to enter the famous Highline, a one-mile-long public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets. The hotel’s central location makes it easy to navigate north and south, and east to west. It’s also near public transportation, with subways and buses nearby.
