HOUSTON
The Houston Marriott Marquis convention center hotel is scheduled to break ground in April. Connected to the George R. Convention Center by pedestrian skybridge, it will dramatically boost the city's large conference capabilities when it opens in 2016.
The $335 million property will offer more than 1,000 guest rooms and 100,000 square feet of meeting space. Plans also include a 5,000-square-foot spa, a 5,000-square-foot fitness facility and substantial underground retail space. It will also showcase Marriott's latest brand innovations, like the Greatroom lobby concept with flexible seating.
Houston is hosting the Super Bowl in 2017, which has spurred significant downtown development.
