Historic Chicago Hotel Completes $215M Revamp

CHICAGO

At over 100 years old, the Palmer House Hilton, one of Chicago’s most historic hotels, has seen its fair share of traffic. In order to maintain its elegant look, the hotel has undergone a lengthy $170 million renovation that includes substantial updates to Executive Level suites and numerous other major improvements.

Highlights of the renovation include:

  • Development and Execution of a Hotel Museum: Opened since 1871, the Palmer House has played host to countless world leaders, and international celebrities as well as been the site for notable events and galas. The museum was created to document these events with the help of Ken Price, the hotel’s resident historian. Price has been at the hotel for nearly 30 years and leads visitors through the museum and hotel sharing stories along the way through its History is Hott presentation and tour.
  • Modernizing Lockwood Restaurant & Bar: During the 2013 renovations of the Palmer House Hilton’s restaurant, Lockwood, attention was spent on increasing seating space, and updating the décor while still preserving the historic elegance of the space. New seating and lighting were added as part of the half-million dollar design project by Aria Group Architects, Inc.
  • On-Trend Redesign of Potter’s Lounge: To choose a new design, Potter’s drew inspiration from a Potter's Lounge Pinterest Board. Each pin featured design aesthetics and historic photos of the hotel that were on-par with the redesign of the space. The transformation included new seating and table tops and new signage, all part of the lounge’s sleek rebranding.

The property includes more than 1,600 guest rooms and approximately 130,000 square feet of meeting and event space—including seven ballrooms and an exhibit hall of nearly 17,000 square feet.
