Norwegian Air’s first ever flight between Orlando and Oslo, Norway, has officially taken to the skies, and the inaugural journey was almost fully booked. Norwegian is the only carrier that offers non-stop flights between Orlando and Scandinavia.
"The traveling public in the greater Orlando area deserves inexpensive fares and flexible tickets to Europe," said Norwegian’s CEO Bjørn Kjos. "The transatlantic market has for too long been dominated by a few large airlines offering unreasonably high fares and restricted ticket flexibility."
The response to Norwegian’s Orlando-Oslo route has been very well received by the traveling public and the first flight to Oslo last Thursday was almost completely full.
"Expanding our international travel and business opportunities is crucial and the arrival of Norwegian Air at Orlando International Airport grants our passengers access to new and exciting Scandinavian markets and multiple connections throughout Europe," said Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
Norwegian will operate two weekly flights between Oslo (OSL) and Orlando (MCO) – on Thursdays and Saturdays. The introductory fare is $236 one way. This is also Orlando´s first scheduled 787 Dreamliner service.
In 2013, Norwegian commenced its long-haul operation by becoming the only low-cost carrier to offer flights between the U.S. and Europe. Norwegian will have a fleet of 14 Dreamliners, whereof six are currently in service one more will be delivered in 2014. The company is planning to expand its long-haul fleet with even more 787 Dreamliners.
Norwegian Air continues to expand internationally and is currently recruiting pilots for its crew base at New York’s JFK airport. The company is recruiting captains and first officers to operate the state-of-the art Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Last year, Norwegian began recruiting U.S. cabin crew for its crew bases in New York and Fort Lauderdale, and the response was outstanding. The airline received more than 6,000 applications for a total of 300 positions to be filled in 2014.
