WILKES-BARRE, Pa.
Courtyard by Marriott Wilkes-Barre Scranton is scheduled to open its doors in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Thursday, July 31, 2014.
Featuring a modern lobby space as well as Courtyard’s latest room design, the new hotel aims to provide flexibility and choices that allow guests to elevate their travel experience.
Located at 879 Schechter Drive, the 106-room hotel will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned and managed by Keystone Hotel Management. The Courtyard Wilkes-Barre Scranton offers guests access to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, downtown Wilkes-Barre, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts.
A New Room Design
The latest Courtyard room design offers hybrid zones for working, sleeping, relaxing and getting ready. Indirect lighting and a neutral, tone-on-tone color palette aims to create a soothing and calm environment. The new rooms were designed to be intuitive and thoughtful, offering flexible spaces that enable technology. Upon arrival, guests can store bags on the “Luggage Drop” and plug personal devices into the “Tech Drop” ledge.
Signature furniture and architectural elements replace traditional art in the guest rooms. The “LoungeAround” sofa offers an area that can be used for relaxing or for working. The room also features a light desk on wheels, allowing guests to work from anywhere in the room.
The hotel's bathrooms received an upgraded, more spacious layout. A “Shower Nook” housing shampoos and towels, makes amenities accessible without having to leave the shower.
Modern Lobby Experience
The Courtyard Wilkes-Barre Scranton offers the "Refreshing Business" lobby environment, where guests can utilize an open and bright area outside of their rooms.
The lobby also features media pods, complimentary Wi-Fi and a variety of seating zones, which can be used for pop-up meetings and social gatherings. Guests can dine at The Bistro – Eat. Drink. Connect, offering casual, flexible seating; easy access to food and healthy menu options for breakfast; and light evening fare, including snacks, cocktails, wine and beer.
Additional Amenities and Meeting Space
An effort was made to provide ample electrical outlets throughout the hotel. The business library features several computer terminals, along with a printer and separate computer stations dedicated solely to printing airline boarding passes and checking flight status.
Courtyard has placed an emphasis on sustainability since Marriott launched the brand 30 years ago and it has now introduced a guest recycling program to help reduce waste. Receptacles for paper, glass, plastic and metal are located by the building's side exits.
The four-story hotel features an indoor swimming pool, fitness center and guest laundry, and offers 1,140 square feet of meeting space to accommodate functions of up to 100 people.
