HAUPPAUGE, N.Y .
The Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (LICVB) has announced the appointment of Yan Baczkowski as president and CEO, effective immediately.
A New York native, Baczkowski is a seasoned destination management professional with over 20 years’ experience working for tourism development organizations in the U.S. and Europe.
He was selected after an extensive national search by the LICVB’s executive search committee, which reviewed resumes from 87 potential candidates and ultimately interviewed six qualified candidates from both on and off Long Island.
Baczkowski replaces Moke McGowan, who served 10 years as president of the LICVB, and is largely credited with rebuilding the Bureau’s professional integrity as a destination marketing and sales organization focused on enhancing the Island’s tourism economy.
Among his previous tenures, Baczkowski served as executive director for Snowmass Tourism in Colorado; CEO of the Verbier St-Bernard Visitors & Convention Bureau in Switzerland; executive director of the French beach resort of La Baule; and Managing Director for the French Government Tourist Office in New York.
On a personal note, Baczkowski and his wife of 14 years, Gaelle, have an eight-year-old daughter, Julia. He is a self-described “amateur sushi chef,” who enjoys water skiing, scuba diving, and taking care of the family’s two ponies.
