Torrential Rains Trigger Flash Flooding in the Southwest

Record rainfall caused by the aftermath of Hurricane Norbert has caused flash flooding in the desert areas of Nevada, Arizona, California and Utah.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), moisture from former Hurricane Norbert continues to impact the Lower Colorado River Valley and southern Nevada the most, and Las Vegas and Phoenix metro areas have been hit particularly hard by recent storms.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) stated that this heavy of precipitation in a six-hour time period has only a 0.002 chance of occurring in any given year.

The rainfall is expected to continue through at least Monday and the NWS has issued flash-flood watches for parts of California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Colorado.

As of the time of the writing of this article it was unclear how the flash flooding has impacted meetings and events in the affected regions. It is advised those holding events in the area keep a close eye on the weather forecast and make sure to take the necessary flash-flood precautions.
