Southwest Braces for More Massive Flooding

TUCSON, Ariz.

Fresh off the large-scale flash flood activity that followed last week’s Hurricane Norbert fallout, the southwest is now bracing for a likely repeat as Odile heads north from Mexico.

While downgraded to a tropical storm from a hurricane, Odile is still projected by Accuweather and other major forecasting outlets to strike the southwest hard through Wednesday evening (Sept. 17) and possibly through the end of the week.

Arizona and New Mexico are expected to take the brunt of the rainfall, with Texas, Nevada and California also probable victims of the storm. Three-to-six inches at minimum of rainfall are expected in a relatively short span of time, with some locales—such as Tucson—projected to receive up to nine inches. Highway washouts are among the anticipated side effects, as river flooding is expected in addition to flash and urban flooding.
