Historic NYC Hotel Shutters for $175 Million Makeover

NEW YORK

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has closed the InterContinental New York Barclay to commence a $175 million, 18-month renovation set to fully revitalize the historic property.

First opened in 1926, the hotel is in the heart of Manhattan a short walk from Park Avenue, Madison Avenue and the United Nations.

The hotel's new design aims to re-energize the Federalist-style property, maintaining its heritage while updating it for today’s needs. Once the renovation is completed, the property will feature approximately 700 guest rooms, a new InterContinental Club Lounge and a fully refurbished lobby with a new Gin bar and restaurant.

The hotel will also continue to serve as a possible venue for corporate meetings through the InterContinental Meetings platform and spaces that include two elegant ballrooms.

IHG continues to expand its presence in top-tier global cities, having recently signed two new flagship properties, the InterContinental Downtown Los Angeles and InterContinental Lisbon.
