Calgary Buzzes Over Hotel Boom

CALGARY, Alb.

Meetings & Conventions Calgary has announced an upcoming hotel boom that will see an additional 3,000 guest rooms debut in the city by 2017, including about 1,100 new quarters in the city’s downtown core and approximately 1,600 in the Northeast sector.

The bureau’s Managing Director Peter Gregus noted that the new rooms are a must to keep up with Calgary’s active status as a host of meetings and conventions.

Among the most highly anticipated downtown openings are a Residence by Marriott with Silverbirch Conference Centre, set to offer 360 guest rooms and about 10,000 square feet of event space, and an ALT hotel that will offer 155 keys and 5,000 square feet of function space.

In the city’s Northeast realms and adjoining the airport are other notable projects in the works, including a Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre boasting 268 guest rooms and 30,000 square feet of function space and a Delta Hotel at the airport terminal set to showcase 318 rooms and about 17,000 square feet of event space.

There’s also buzz building for Airport Crossing, a development set to comprise six new hotels and 1,000 total new rooms, including a Wyndham and an InterContinental.
