PHILADELPHIA
In a recent announcement, the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board dismissed the unfair labor practice charges filed against the Pennsylvania Convention Center by the pair of unions who opted not to sign an updated new agreement on show floor labor (Carpenters Local 8 and Teamsters Local 107).
Similar charges were dismissed by the National Labor Relations Board in July 2014.
In May 2014, the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority made an offer to the six unions working in the Center to okay a new agreement providing show floor labor. Four unions agreed to the new, more competitive terms and signed the agreement, while the Carpenters Local 8 and Teamsters Local 107 unions decided not to sign the new contract.
The dismissal of charges comes at a time of upbeat momentum for convention bookings in Philadelphia under the new customer satisfaction agreement, with the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, SMG, the four trade unions operating in the building, and the city’s greater hotel community working cooperatively.
