Miami Debut for Luxe New Hotel Brand

MIAMI

SH Group, the Starwood Capital Group hotel brand management company, announced the opening of 1 Hotel South Beach.

The first property for the new 1 Hotels brand aims to showcase a socially and environmentally conscious platform in celebration of the beauty and preservation of nature.

Located on an entire city block on Collins Avenue from 23rd to 24th street with 600 linear feet of pristine beach, the property integrates reclaimed materials such as salvaged Florida cypress and natural elements like coral stone and living plants.

At 1 Hotel South Beach every detail is designed to bring the outside in. Living green walls and grottos inside the lobby and sand-floor cabanas on the pool deck aim to blur the distinction between interior and exterior environments.

Natural textures truly take the spotlight in the interiors via reclaimed woods, such as mushroom wood, Javanese teak root, driftwood, white oak, bleached walnut, Colorado beetle kill pine and spalted maple; natural poured and polished concrete floors; and locally sourced materials, such as regional coral stone. A color palette of nature-inspired tones infuse the space—warm wood-toned hues and natural green, accented with highlights of yellow and blue, flooded with natural light.

Rooms and public spaces are accented with stylish and subtly luxurious furnishings from leading artisans and brands. Bathrooms feature reclaimed Calacatta marble, locally handmade concrete trough sinks, teak vanities and hand-blown glass pendant lights. Furnishings and infrastructure elements will adhere to green building and LEED standards.

Throughout the property guests will be surrounded by an abundance of indigenous flora and fauna, including 3,000 feet of living wall wrapped-around the building’s exterior with 11,000 local tropical plant varieties and 2,000 feet of plant life in the main ballroom.

Furthermore, Miami’s Wynwood-based Plant the Future creates nature-as-art moments throughout the hotel that act as a living art exhibits for guests to interact with and enjoy, such as terrariums in the rooms, a “plant laboratory” gallery with rotating exhibitions, observation terrariums hanging from the ceiling to allow guests to take in a 360-degree view from inside, a curated jungle at the back of reception, and additional pieces around the hotel.

The hotel features 426 guest rooms that average 700 square feet, including 84 high-end studio suites with kitchens. Oversized energy-efficient casement windows and sliding-glass doors allow for plenty of natural light, as well as expansive private balconies.

A paperless approach includes electronic check-in, bedside chalkboards in lieu of notepads, and an in-room Nexus device pre-loaded with newspapers and magazines. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is provided for up to five devices per room, along with 24-hour concierge services, in-room dining, access to a fleet of Tesla premium electric vehicle rides within a three-mile radius of the hotel, complimentary valet for all electric vehicles for overnight guests, and complimentary bicycle valet parking.

Guests will enjoy amenities such as four ocean-view swimming pools, including an 112-foot long pool as part of the 26,000-square-foot rooftop ultra-lounge; 57 cabanas and daybeds ranging from intimate two-person daybeds to the rooftop living room cabana for up to 20; an expansive beach club; a kid-focused Seedlings program with Basecamp facility, and an 18,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, set to open late 2015.

The hotel invites guests to gather in more than 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space. Highlights are the 6,500-square-foot ballroom accommodating up to 1,000 people, the 2,300-square-foot junior ballroom, 14 tech-savvy meeting rooms, the expansive beach club and an Oceanfront Northeast Terrace.

The hotel also anchors 155 residences, a collaboration between Starwood Capital Group and LeFrak, with select units to be placed into the hotel rental program.

At 1 Hotel South Beach, ingredients come first. The hotel’s signature restaurant Beachcraft is helmed by critically acclaimed, James Beard Award-winning chef Tom Colicchio, making his Miami debut. At Beachcraft, the Mediterranean-inspired breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus will celebrate the offerings of South Florida’s local farms and fishermen in a seaside setting designed by Meyer Davis. Chef Colicchio will also be at the helm of the pool restaurant and bar named Sand Box as well as the property's lobby bar, playfully called Tom on Collins. Nightlife activities can be found at the rooftop lounge, available later in 2015.

The hotel is only steps from the shopping and dining options on the Lincoln Road Mall, the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center, the Bass Museum of Art and Miami Beach Botanical Garden.

1 Hotel South Beach will soon be followed by the openings of 1 Hotel Central Park in Spring 2015 and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Park in late 2015.
