MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich.
Grand Hotel, the world’s largest summer hotel, recently opened for its 129th season with the addition of new Cupola Suites on the hotel’s fourth floor.
The new Cupola Suites are designed by Carleton Varney, president of the New York-based Dorothy Draper Co. Inc., who has been Grand Hotel’s decorator for 40 years. They suites are comprised of four bedrooms and two parlors. Guests will have the option of staying in one bedroom, one bedroom with a parlor or two bedrooms with a parlor, depending on their needs.
Grand Hotel opens Friday, May 1 and closes for the season on November 2. This is one of the longest seasons in Grand Hotel history; the property is located on Mackinac Island, Mich., where there are no motorized vehicles and the island is only accessible by ferry or airplane. The 390-room hotel is a National Historic Landmark and a member of Historic Hotels of America.
The property offers ample event space, highlighted by the 16,000-square-foot Woodfill Conference Center.
