SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York
Saratoga Casino and Raceway officially broke ground on a $34 million hotel expansion project on Wed., May 27.
James Featherstonhaugh, one of the casino's owners, mentioned in an interview with the Times Union that the new hotel expansion was necessary to keep the casino competive with the Rivers Casino & Resort at Mohawk Harbor, currently being constructed in Schenectady, New York.
Saratoga Casino expects to complete the 108-room, 123,000-square-foot hotel project by Memorial Day 2016. According to the Times Union, the project is expected to employ 500 construction workers and the new hotel will add between 200 and 300 new employees to the existing 400 full-time and 200 part-time employees.
Amenities in the hotel will include an indoor pool and fitness center, lobby bar, meeting rooms and a signature fine dining restaurant.
Saratoga Springs is home to the Saratoga Springs City Center, which offers 12,000 square feet of meeting space and the adjoining 242-room Saratoga Hilton Hotel. Featherstonhaugh also hopes the hotel will draw business from the upcoming $66.5 million convention center that is currently under construction in Albany.
