Hospitality Caucus Highlights Industry Challenges

WASHINGTON, D.C.

U.S. Representatives Sean Duffy (WI-07) and Derek Killmer (WA-06) recently launched the Hospitality Caucus, in an effort to provide a better understanding of the challenges faced by the American hospitality industry.

Both congressmen released statements regarding the importance of hospitality to the overall U.S. economy.

Rep. Duffy offered, “Whether in January or July, fishing from the side of a boat or a hole in the ice, Wisconsin has something for everyone and the hardworking people who make up our hospitality industry are central to our culture and our local economy. This caucus celebrates this industry, and the impact it has on each of our districts, but also serves as a resource to help work through burdensome regulations."

Rep. Kilmer continued, “Whether you are meeting an old friend, joining with coworkers, or visiting from out of town, folks are flocking to the growing constellation of breweries, craft distilleries, and wineries you'll find in the Pacific Northwest. Every day entrepreneurs are developing new recipes and creating jobs in our region. This caucus will highlight how the hospitality industry brings people together and keeps our economy moving."

The Hospitality Caucus is said to focus on the following key points:

  • The positive impact of the American hospitality industry on the United States economy.
  • The importance of a well-regulated marketplace.
  • The industry’s commitment to ensuring responsible marketing, advertising, distribution and sales of adult beverage products.

While the congressmen's comments reference the leisure tourism segment of the industry, the Hospitality Caucus will also likely represent some of the interests and concerns of the meetings industry, especially as related to the key issue of economic impact.
