Evansville DoubleTree Overcomes Hurdles

EVANSVILLE, Ind.

Hilton Worldwide announced that construction has started on a new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in downtown Evansville, Indiana. The Evansville DoubleTree Convention Center Hotel will be the only full service convention hotel available in the downtown area, which is undergoing a major revitalization.

The downtown Evansville hotel project has been in the works since 2013, and the DoubleTree branding was announced in 2014, followed by funding delays and protest from another Hilton hotel owner. Now the property has finally gotten the go-ahead to commence construction for an October 2016 launch.

In addition to being connected via sky bridges to the Ford Arena and the Old National Events Plaza, the hotel will also connect with Indiana University's expanded medical school which breaks ground next month. The hotel is owned by HCW Evansville Hotel, LLC.

"Evansville is Indiana's third largest city and is fast becoming a center of academics, business and entertainment,” said Rick Huffman, CEO/Manager of HCW Evansville Hotel, LLC. β€œIn the last few years, the capacity to welcome conventions have grown and being able to attract this type of business by offering a full service hotel is paramount to the success of the downtown revitalization.”

The five-story hotel's exterior design aesthetic will be sleek and modern, complementing the surrounding area. The interior's overall color palette and materials pay homage to Evansville's role and history during the industrial revolution as a top exporter of crushed stone.

The Evansville DoubleTree will offer 241 guest rooms and an array of complimentary amenities, including Wi-Fi throughout the hotel's public areas and guest rooms, a 24-hour business center, a 24-hour fitness center, outdoor pool and courtyard. Over 12,000 square feet of flexible meeting space is available for social and business events including a 6,400 square foot ballroom next to 4,000 square feet of pre-function space, two breakout meeting rooms, and a board room.

The hotel will also feature a restaurant and a bar and lounge on the first floor.
