New Florida Train Service Expects 2017 Launch

All Aboard Florida—developer of the only privately owned passenger rail service in the U.S.—unveiled more details on its Brightline train service, which plans to charter groups from Miami to Orlando.

The high-speed train service is on track for a mid-2017 launch and will cost more than $3 billion to build. The Brightline will connect the major cities of south and central Florida along a 235-mile route.

The Brightline name was only recently revealed at the construction site for MiamiCentral, a new downtown transportation hub and mixed-use urban development in Miami.

“With the introduction of Brightline, we set out to reinvent what traveling by train can mean in America, making it a forward-leaning solution that is a smarter alternative to more cars on crowded roads,” said Michael Reininger, president of All Aboard Florida. “Brightline is built to be an intuitive transportation option aligned with the emerging preferences of our customers for mass transit solutions.”

The Rockwell Group is working on brand and product development, while the trains themselves are being built in California by Siemens—each adorned in a spectrum of five distinct colors: BrightRed, BrightOrange, BrightGreen, BrightBlue and BrightPink, led by BrightYellow locomotives.

All Aboard Florida claims the train will be a faster method of traveling than by car and that its journey will be comparable to total air-travel time when flying between destinations.

Available Brightline amenities will reportedly include “roomy and reserved” onboard seating, free Wi-Fi, on-board food and beverage selections and options for easy local transit connections.
