Allegiant COO Resigns Amid Safety Concerns

Allegiant Air announced that COO Steven E. Harfst, a former Navy fighter pilot with nearly three decades of experience in the aviation industry, resigned from his post at the Las Vegas-based airline.

Various news outlets, including KTNV Action News in Las Vegas, have reported that the Allegiant Air COO’s resignation comes at a time when the low-cost airline is already facing scrutiny following several emergency landings due to mechanical issues, raising concerns about its overall safety record.

"The company will use this leadership change as an opportunity to refocus on operational needs and areas for improvement," the Allegiant Travel Company said in a statement released late last week.

Harfst joined the Allegiant Airlines as COO in December 2014. Prior to his time spent working with Allegiant, Harfst was the COO at IndiGo Airlines based in New Delhi, India.
