Jay Spurr is the new director of sales & marketing for the 1,500-room San Francisco Marriott Marquis. Spurr brings more than 20 years of experience at top-tier hotels and resorts to his new position.
“I feel like a kid in a candy shop. San Francisco has always been one of my favorite cities. I want to share my passion for the city by ensuring that guests experience the very best of San Francisco every time they stay at our hotel,” says Spurr.
Prior to joining the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, Spurr served as director of sales & marketing for the opening of the JW Marriott Austin in 2015. Under his leadership, the hotel was named one of the world’s top nine new business hotels by leading travel agents in Forbes magazine.
Spurr also garnered Marriott International’s Hotel Opening of the Year Award for his successful launch of the Austin property, which represents JW Marriott’s largest luxury hotel in North America. From 2006 to 2011, Spurr was director of sales & marketing for the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, where he led his team to achieve the 2006 Global Sales Team of the Year Award.
Spurr began his career by working in various departments, ranging from front desk to housekeeping to sales, at several Marriott properties across the nation.
Spurr holds a B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration from the University of South Carolina.
The San Francisco Marriott Marquis offers 117,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, including 59 event rooms and the 39,600-square-foot Yerba Buena Ballroom.
