PHILADELPHIA
Lonely Planet released its annual “Best in the U.S.” travel wish list, and Philadelphia is on top.
The World Heritage City was recently visited by Pope Francis and is hosting the Democratic National Convention in July, so there’s a lot of hype heading Philly’s way at the moment. Lonely Planet praised the city’s efforts to revitalize its urban core while “[retaining] its historic roots and gritty flavor.”
Other cities that cracked Lonely Planet’s top 10 include Natchez, Miss., Birmingham, Ala., Somerville, Mass., San Antonio and Milwaukee, Wis. Destinations that made the top 10 include Yellowstone National Park, the state of Alaska, Northwest Arkansas and Southern New Mexico.
