Marriott CEO to Join Obama in Cuba

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the President’s Export Council Chair Ursula Burns, chairman and CEO of Xerox, and Vice Chair Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott, will travel to Cuba on March 20 alongside President Barack Obama and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker.

An official release details that in Cuba, the President will work to build on the progress the U.S. has made toward normalization of relations with Cuba—advancing commercial and people-to-people ties that can improve the well-being of the Cuban people, and expressing support for human rights.

In addition to holding a bilateral meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro, President Obama will engage with members of civil society, entrepreneurs and Cubans from different walks of life.

The Wall Street Journal also reported on Friday, March 11, that Marriott and Starwood want to start doing business in Cuba and have applied to the appropriate government entities to secure approval.
