Calgary’s vibrant energy and business potential is attracting an exciting array of investors and builders to the city. From new hotels to musical musings, discover Calgary’s latest additions to its meetings and conventions scene.
Calgary’s Hotel Boom
Over 3,000 hotel rooms will be added to the city’s inventory by 2018!
Kicking off this boom, Calgary’s newest hotel the Fairfield Inn & Suites opened 124 guest rooms downtown last year. Two additional downtown hotels have broken ground just 6 blocks from the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre:
- Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Inn & Suites (315 rooms).
- Residence by Marriott with Silverbirch Conference Centre (360 rooms).
These hotels will contribute to the 1,000 new guest rooms opening in Calgary’s downtown through 2018.
Airport Expansion
Whether you are convening downtown—a quick 20 minute drive from Calgary’s airport, or in the city’s Northeast for a fly-in fly-out meeting, Calgary has new and exciting conference offerings.
The Calgary International Airport is Canada’s 3rd largest, and growing! Completing its expansion of the International Terminal this fall, the airport will double in size. Twenty-four aircraft gates will be added, surrounded by a variety of new restaurants including local favorites and international flavors.
Two new airport hotels will open in the International Terminal:
- Calgary Marriott In-Terminal Hotel (318 rooms and 18,000 square feet of meeting space).
- Westin Calgary Airport (250 rooms and 30,000 square feet of meeting space).
An Acoustic Offsite: The National Music Centre
Studio Bell—home of the National Music Centre (NMC)—will open in summer 2016. The NMC is a unique offering to Calgary’s offsite venue inventory, with space that can host up to 300 people.
Featuring striking city views, the NMC’s Skybridge is an event planners dream. The Skybridge crossing has a capacity of 200 people and connects the museum’s two buildings together.
This is just one of the many spaces available for rent in the architecturally-stunning facility. Dedicated to telling the story of music in Canada, the NMC will be an international hub for culture and technology. Event bookings are available starting September 2016.
