Providence Renaissance Reveals Renovations

PROVIDENCE, R.I.

The Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, an upscale, arts-inspired hotel affiliated with the Marriott portfolio of branded luxury hotels, celebrated the completion of an extensive, multimillion-dollar interior renovation that accentuate the building’s origins as a 1920s-era Masonic Temple.

The renovation also aimed to artfully reflect the vibrant arts and design community and bodies of water that run through and around Providence. The Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel is operated by TPG Hotels & Resorts, the hospitality management affiliate of Procaccianti Companies.

“We are beyond thrilled about the outcome of our renovations and the opportunity to share this transformation with the community as part of our Global Day of Discovery,” said Kimberly Greene, general manager of the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel. “Our entire team feels passionately about the look and feel of the renovations as they not only enhance the interior with a vibrant, intimate boutique feel but thoughtfully incorporate the history of our building while inspiring guests to explore.”

The renovations were unveiled at the hotel as part of the fifth annual Global Day of Discovery—when nearly 170 Renaissance hotels, located in more than 35 countries around the world, joined together to inspire discovery among business and leisure travelers, as well as locals.

Renovations were aimed at enhancing the building’s initial transformation while continuing to tell its unique story. Construction on the building complex started in 1927 as a Masonic Temple with neoclassical architecture, including beautiful marble pillars, but was abandoned in 1928 as the Great Depression set in. With only the outside walls and roof completed, the building stood vacant for 75 years until 2007—when it was carefully restored as the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel.

The current renovations encompass 272 guest rooms—including Presidential and Vice Presidential suites—as well as a fully refurbished lobby, guest corridors, Capitol Boardroom and Club Lounge.

The Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel offers 14,540 square feet of event space.
