ARLINGTON, Va./WASHINGTON D.C.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport announced it will begin a $1 billion renovation this fall, which will include a new concourse for short-hop flights, among other additions.
The Reagan National Airport is a major stop for D.C. travelers and the second busiest airport in the region after the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. After 75 years of business, airport officials said that passenger traffic has overwhelmed the airport and the impending upgrades hope to address the issue.
The centerpiece of the $1 billion project will include a new commuter concourse on the airport’s north side. The building will replace Gate 35X, which The Washington Post reported as a “notorious choke point where travelers, in rain, sun or snow, are required to board shuttle buses to get to their planes."
